Large winged creatures. However, they came to realize their overall placid nature when not hunting for food and came to tame these large mounts instead of fighting them. They now raise and tame the large winged beasts. Due to their smaller size, grunts can't ride them properly but play an important role in getting the younger mounts used to being ridden and handled.
Trainers and hunting partners of the large mounts have a high pitched whistle that the mounts can hear when called for when it's time to hunt, as they relax in the hottest areas of the volcano. These creatures are cold blooded and accustomed to the hottest of temperatures and thus like to lounge within the steam vents within the volcano when at their own leisure. The winged creatures cannot survive elsewhere outside of this unique ecosystem. If in a colder environment for too long, they will end up dying so can only take short and temporary ventures out, but have to return in a timely manner.
