MAKING A TOSKAL...So! You've purchased and made your first ever MYO and want to get it added as an official Toskal. We now just need to check they're all good and healthy as a Tosk should be before releasing them in to the wild.

THE BASICS:

IS THE PELT SYMMETRICAL?Toskals (barring those with the asymmetrical pelt mutation) will always have a symmetrical pelt. Meaning that all markings and colours must be matching on either side of the body unless the Toskal has a specific pelt mutation.

ARE THE CLAWS BLACK?A Toskal will always have black claws (unless they have the white claw mutation -- which renders their claws delicate and brittle), these strong claws are primarily used in hunting and fighting and in some cases, are painted.

IS THE MOUTH DARK ENOUGH?A Toskals mouth is generally quite dark in colour, however there are rules in place when it comes to deciding the colour of your Toskals tongue and gums.
Common ranked and grunt ranked Toskals will always have a mouth colour that ranges from near-black to a desaturated and fleshy brown-red. Alpha and Apex ranked Toskals can have the common red to black colours but can also have quite a variety of colours, such as purple, blue and even green! The main rule is that these cannot be vibrant or neon. A few acceptable light colours would be the following: Red Oxide (#510F0F), Verdun Green (#504F0F), Bakers Chocolate (#50310F), Cyprus (#0F514B), Blue whale (#0F3550), Hot purple (#460F51), Blackberry (#500F37). |

ARE THE EYES BLACK & WHITE?Toskals have highly reflective eyes that are always a stark and bright white with a black sclera and black pupil. There are a few tribes out there that use special dyes to change the colour of their eyes but it is a fiercely kept secret. (Only specific Felix adopts may have varying eye colours.)

IS THE LOWER EAR A SEPARATE COLOUR FROM THE UPPER?A Toskals ear must have two separate colours that make the lower and upper parts of the ear easily distinguishable.

DOES THE NOSE MATCH THE MANE?A Toskals nose and mane will always be the same colour, even Toskals with the Chimera mutation will have a nose and mane that matches for either half. An Asymmetrical pelted Toskal will also have a nose and mane that matches as the specific mutation does not effect them. (Pigment loss/gain in both nose and mane are limited to mutations and cannot be added freely.)

ALPHA HORNS:

Choosing horns that fit...If you've recently purchased an alpha ranked MYO then you'll be glad to know that Toskal horns can come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but are subject to a few simple rules to help guide you and to save your Toskals poor ears and neck!

All standard Toskal horns are symmetrical (much like their pelts) and usually only vary in colour between one to two shades. An alpha ranked Toskal with an asymmetrical pelt can sometimes be found to have two different coloured horns. In general, Toskal horns are not overly large or branching (like antlers). Smooth and simple is king in the Toskal beauty world.
Sharply angled, branched and thin horns would be far too brittle to survive the harsh life of the Toskal home world. Tight ram horns are considered an illegal horn shape as they restrict the ears movement. And small nub horns are limited to mutation only.

TIPS AND RULES ON PELT DESIGN...We pride ourselves in being fairly open in regards to pelt design and choices, but there are a few rules that need to be followed, so please check them out!

THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD...Neons and overly dark pelts are a no-no, occasionally bright pelted Toskals may be obtained via official adoption or breeds, but generally overly bright or insanely dark pelted Toskals will fail to pass MYO approval without some editing requests.

Natural themed and inspired markings are always a positive and encouraged! We do not allow unnatural markings such as logos and sharp shapes.

The use of effect brushes such as the speckle brush are a not allowed or encouraged, use of these brushes make it difficult for artists to replicate the Toskals pelt and just in general are not considered viable for pelt design. However, chunks of hand drawn speckles / splotches are still allowed.

A TIP ON MAKING A PATTERN LOOK more NATURAL...A little bit of blending goes a long way! If you don't have any fancy brushes or simply lack the time to search for a decent one, then simply lowering the opacity of a fluffy airbrush or grabbing the blur tool should do the trick!
